About Me

I have been in education for the past twenty years – beginning as a teaching assistant in a school for children with emotional and behavioural issues (EBD) near Birmingham. For the last 11 years I have been in the role of headteacher, currently working as an Executive Headteacher in a large three form entry in West Berkshire.  I began my teaching career in 2005 when I was selected for the Fast Track teaching programme, quickly working my way through leadership, taking every opportunity that came my way. This included sitting on the GTC as a council member for a term of four years, being a facilitator for the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders whilst undertaking my Post Graduate in Advanced Educational Practice, a Master’s in Education, various other NPQ qualifications including my National Professional Qualification in Headship. In 2013, I took on my first headship, where I have been ever since.

I have written various educational articles for different journals and publications; participated in many interviews and podcasts regarding education and my experiences, and presented keynotes, speeches, presentations, and training for many different organisations across England.

If you follow me on Twitter, you also know that a few years ago, I opened up about the abusive relationship I had been in from the time I was 18 to 38. This relationship had everything – emotional, verbal, physical, financial, and sexual abuse – I had been coercively controlled from the start.

The reason I am telling you all of this is that I know what it means to flourish. I know about resilience, courage and strength. I know about hard work – striving towards what you want, having a goal and putting in the focus, perseverance and commitment to make it happen. I want to share what I have learnt with you. I want to help you to home in on these traits within yourself and to truly shine. I am a firm believer in the fact that every storm we face makes us even stronger – it’s about how we change and adapt that sets our future course.

Our attitude and mindset will get us through anything. It’s about focusing our thinking, re-evaluating our priorities and focusing on where we are now and where we are heading.
